Services

Every project begins with a conversation.

What you're hearing, who you'd want to sit beside on a playlist, how many songs are waiting, and what the budget allows. From there, the work takes whatever shape the music needs: a single service, or the whole path from first session to finished master.

Writing and planning travel well and can happen anywhere. Vocals are best captured in the room, in North Nashville. And when a song calls for a full band, there are rooms around town built for exactly that.

Recording

Private studio, North Nashville

Alex Le Carter records vocals, live instruments, and spoken word at a private studio in North Nashville, Tennessee. The day rate is $750.

The room is small, relaxed, and built for performance. Its signal chain, a Neve 5211 preamp into a Mic Shop MS47 Mark II tube microphone, is the kind usually found in rooms that cost ten times the rate. The instrument collection runs deeper than most studios: a Musser vibraphone, a Rosler upright piano, guitars, bass, and a Sequential Take 5 synthesizer. In this room, nearly anything can become an instrument.

A well-rehearsed artist tracking vocals over finished production can usually cover two to three songs in one session.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What genres do you work in?

Hip hop, classical, and pop, with co-writing available for hip hop and pop projects. Podcast production and consulting are available for any format or subject matter.

How much does it cost to record or mix a song in Nashville?

With Alex Le Carter, recording is a $750 day rate, mixing starts at $400 per song, music and beat production starts at $500 per song, demo production starts at $150, podcast consulting is $200 per hour, and podcast mastering starts at $150 per episode. Co-writing, music mastering, and podcast production are quoted after a conversation about the project.

Where is the studio?

A private studio in North Nashville, Tennessee. Vocals and live instruments are recorded there, and full-band sessions are booked at larger rooms around Nashville. Most other work, including mixing, production, co-writing, and podcast production, can be done remotely.

Do you work with artists remotely?

Yes. Mixing, demo production, music production, co-writing, and podcast production are all available fully remote. Recording sessions can be done in-studio in North Nashville or remotely depending on your setup. Podcast clients are worked with remotely daily, including live access to diagnose and optimize your recording environment before a session begins.

Do I need to know exactly what I want before reaching out?

No. Some clients come in with a fully formed vision, others arrive with a feeling or a reference track. The process is built to meet you where you are, whether that's a blank page or a nearly finished record.

Can I hear examples of your work before booking?

Yes. The portfolio page includes work across hip hop, classical, and podcast production. If you have a specific sound or reference in mind, reach out directly and samples relevant to your project can be shared.

What can we realistically accomplish in a session?

A well-rehearsed artist tracking vocals over existing production can typically cover two to three songs in a single session. More complex tracking (multiple live instruments, songs still being arranged, or first-time studio clients) will move at a different pace. That conversation happens before you book so expectations are clear going in.

What's the difference between recording and music production?

Recording is the process of capturing a performance (vocals, instruments, spoken word) to a high-quality audio file. Music production is the broader creative process: building the arrangement, selecting sounds, shaping the feel of a song from the ground up. The two often overlap, but they aren't the same service. Both are available here, separately or together.

What's the difference between mixing and mastering?

Mixing is the process of balancing all the individual elements of a recorded track (levels, panning, EQ, compression, and effects) so everything works together as a cohesive whole. Mastering is the final step that optimizes the overall sound for distribution across streaming platforms, radio, and physical formats. Both services are available, with mastering coordinated through a trusted network of professional engineers matched to your genre and release format.

What file formats do you work with?

Sessions are run in Pro Tools. For mixing, WAV files are preferred. Stems, tracked-out files, WAV, and MP3 delivery are all available depending on the service.

How many revisions are included?

Mixing includes three rounds of revisions. Additional revisions are available at $75 per hour. Revision policies for other services are discussed and agreed upon at the start of each project.

How long does a typical project take?

Timelines depend on availability and scope. A single mix can be delivered within three business days. Demo production can take as few as five to ten business days. EP and album mixes can be delivered within one to three weeks for the first mix. Music production and co-writing timelines are discussed during the initial conversation and depend on the complexity of the project. Realistic timelines will be discussed during discovery.

What should I bring to a recording session?

Come with your songs rehearsed and your instrument in tune and freshly strung. The more prepared you are before the session, the more time is spent capturing great performances rather than working out arrangements. Bring your lyrics if you're tracking vocals, and bring reference tracks if you have them. Songs that capture the sound or feel you're after go a long way toward getting on the same page quickly.

Do you offer packages that cover recording, mixing, and mastering together?

Yes. Full-service packages are available for artists who want a single point of contact from first session to release-ready master. Reach out to discuss what your project needs and a package can be built around it.

I'm a podcaster, not a musician. Is this the right studio for me?

Absolutely. Podcast production is a core service, not an afterthought. From format development and gear setup to episode editing, mastering, and custom intro music, the process is built for hosts who want to sound professional without becoming audio engineers themselves.

Do you work with first-time studio clients?

Yes, and it's more common than you'd think. The process is explained at every step. There's no assumption that you know the terminology or the workflow. If it's your first time working with a producer, say so upfront and the session will be structured accordingly.

Do you use contracts?

Yes. Every project starts with a clear written agreement covering scope, deliverables, revisions, and publishing where applicable. No surprises on either end.
